Mirjam Schmidt, Viola

Mirjam Schmidt was born in Ludwigshafen am Rhein, Germany and started studying the violin at the age of eight.  During her school years she was a member of various youth orchestras and began playing occasionally as a violist.  She was gradually seduced by the mellow tones of the viola and from the age of eighteen decided to switch permanently. At university she studied with various teachers including Jean Sulem, Harmut Rohde, Ulrich Eichenauer and Lars Anders Tomter.  She currently lives in Oslo and works with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, Lyon Opera Orchestra, and as a baroque violist with Ensemble Barokkanere, Norwegian Baroque Orchestra, and the Barokksolistene.
